Finding My Voice After Fifty: My Essay for Women Writers, Women’s Books

I’m delighted to share my essay, “Finding My Voice After Fifty: How Faith, Cancer, and an Unexpected Dream Led Me Back to Writing,” published by Women Writers, Women’s Books.

In the piece, I write about the rather winding road that eventually led me to become a novelist—from studying philosophy and religion, to converting to Judaism, to surviving throat cancer, and finally to writing The Adventures of Gefilda Fische.

I didn’t publish my first novel until after fifty. One of the things I’ve learned along the way is that creativity doesn’t come with an expiration date—and sometimes the experiences accumulated over a lifetime are exactly what finally give us something we need to write.
